On Jun. 27, UN renewed sanctions on Democratic Republic of Congo.
UN renewed the sanctions regime concerning Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Follows UN Jun. 2021 renewed regime on Democratic Republic of Congo, see #109549.
Renewed Measures
Unanimously adopting Res 2738 (2024), the council decided to renew measures relating to arms, finances and travel relating to the DRC, until Jul. 1, 2025.
Also renewed previous reaffirmation that measures on arms no longer apply to supply, sale or transfer of arms and related materiel, and provision of any assistance, advice or training related to military activities to the Government of the DRC.
Council decided to extend until Aug. 1, 2025 the mandate of the group of experts assisting the Security Council Committee established pursuant to Res 1533 (2004).
Plus, review mandate and take appropriate action re further extension by Jul. 1, 2025.
Secretary-general to take the necessary administrative measures to re-establish the group of experts, and reaffirmed importance of ensuring safety/security of members.
Further, it requested the group of experts to provide to the council a mid-term report no later than Dec. 30, 2024, and a final report no later than Jun. 15, 2025.
UN will do everything possible to ensure perpetrators of the killing of two group of experts members and four Congolese nationals with them are brought to justice.
Stressed the importance of a continued deployment of the follow-on mechanism to the DRC to assist with the national investigation.
