On Apr. 2, VA LEG enacted bill to increase weekly unemployment pay.

  • VA LEG passed bill HB 1766/SB 1056 in order to amend VA FIN 602-6-2-60.2-602, Weekly benefit amount, to increase weekly unemployment compensation benefits.

  • An eligible individual's weekly unemployment compensation benefit amount shall be $100 higher than the current weekly benefit amount, for claims on/after Jan. 1, 2026.
  • Commission on Unemployment Compensation to convene work group to study making annual adjustments to weekly benefit amounts based on the average weekly wage.
  • Once effective, weekly unemployment compensation paid for a maximum of 26 weeks.
