IOW LEG enacted bill SF 418 re sex and gender, indications of person's sex on certain vital records, gender identity under Iowa civil rights act, and gender theory in schools.
Aims to define terms to closely match the biological sex, and clinically verified states.
Defines sex/related terms, prohibits State law, policy, program from discrimination on the basis of sex, and requires vital statistics divisions to identify sex as male or female.
Also, adds a provision that requires separate accommodations in shelters, prisons, restrooms, locker room, and other places where health, safety, privacy are implicated.
Removes gender identity from protected classes for employment, religious entities, residential real estate and rental housing, posted job vacancies, education institutions.
Requires sex to be determined at birth and added to birth certificate within 6 months.
Removed the requirement to have a surgeon certify a sex change for birth certificate.
Defines gender identity and clarifies it not a synonym or substitute for sex or gender.
Reclassifies gender identity as gender theory, a concept that an individual may properly be described in terms of an internal sense of gender incongruent with the sex.
